Rector of Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR), Msgr Jean-Marie Vianney GAHIZI, has attended the 1st African Universities Rectors (AUR) Conference held in Teramo (Italy) that has focused on “Protection of cultural and natural heritage and resources through prevention: current and new professions”.
In the framework of the 2nd International Forum of Gran Sasso on "Prevention, a way for a new development" held in Teramo (Italy) from 20 to 22 June 2019, the Rector of Catholic University of Rwanda, Msgr Jean-Marie Vianney GAHIZI attended the 1st African Universities Rectors (AUR) Conference, an initiative of the International Center for the Study of the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage worldwide through training, information, research, cooperation and advocacy programs, in collaboration with the University of Teramo (UNITE) and the Diocese of Teramo-Atri, under the auspices of the Italian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Education, Universities and Research.
The event focused on “Protection of cultural and natural heritage and resources through prevention: current and new professions” aiming to provide an opportunity for leaders of African higher education institutions to exchange experiences and draw on lessons on issues related to three main topics:
1. Analysis of the current situation of preservation of cultural and natural heritage and resources: emerging issues and best practices.
2. Issues in management of cultural and natural heritage and resources: Regulations and professions.
3. Preservation of natural and cultural heritage and resources in development policies: between local development and international cooperation
On that occasion, the Rector of CUR addressed on the “Best practices in order to raise awareness about the promotion and preservation of historic, cultural and memory sites”
