This Wednesday, 22nd January 2020, the team of Rwandan Parliament, Chamber of Senetors visited Catholic University of Rwanda. This is the campaign of disseminating the findings of research about the different strategies to counter all forms of denial and minimization of the genocide against the Tutsi in foreign countries.
Senator Prof KARANGWA Chrisologue says that the campaign’s main objective is to make known all the subjects and results of the research to students, researchers, academicians, and staff of higher learning institutions as well as to urge them to participate and engage in the fight against genocide ideology, denial, and minimization of the genocide against the Tutsi.
Senetors point out that this denial ideology frustrates the efforts of unity and the positive transformation of the country. They further explain that they are working to see that other governments enact laws that punish these genocide deniers accordingly.
This sensitization campaign comes as a result of a research conducted by the senate about how Rwandans and non-Rwandans abroad deny that the genocide against Tutsi happened as well as minimizing its consequences. According to the research conducted, the press is one of the tools being used to fuel the denial and negation of the genocide against Tutsi.
Genocide denial is often committed through published books, radio, television, social media, magazines, public speeches and sometimes even open conferences.
